Kinds of Art

Kinds Of Art The true definition of art is one that has been argued and disputed throughout history. The definition of art now stands as an elusive word encompassing many different forms and mediums.

There are many types of art that were not created with the intention of being art and are now defined by the modern world with some difficulty. Many of these types of art fall under more than one category in the effort to correctly identify them in an art world that is increasingly expanding with new forms of art and a widening pool of recovered artifacts and information. The fine arts and the performing arts are just two types of arts in the art world.

There are various items that have been recovered from the past that are seen as art today but at the time of the creation it was not considered art. Art that was made in years past has been recovered from the ground and can be labeled as an artifact, a religious piece of art, or a fertility sculpture among other things. Cave paintings are now considered to be primitive art but at the time that they were created they could have been made during rituals that were made to bring luck to a hunt or as a story depicting the exciting hunt that had just happened.

In terms of basic categories these cave paintings would also fall under the category of painting. Painting has been around since these cave painting times but has since evolved. Another kind of art that is similar to painting is drawing and this is really defined as making lines or marks with a tool. Under this category formally lies charcoal drawing, pen drawing, and pencil drawing but cutting is also under the category of drawing as it does make a mark. Sculpture is another type of art that has been in existence for as long as the cave paintings and sculpture has been around as long as hunting tools themselves. The hunting tools themselves can be considered sculpture and the hunting tools were also used as tools to express a more artistic side of early man. Painting, drawing and sculpture belong to the fine arts and are still around today and are practiced by artists first and foremost in a traditional arts training program to familiarize them with the most basic forms of artistic expression.

Some more modern forms of art have developed with time and include architecture, photography, graphic arts, and videography. Other forms of art also include music and the performing arts like dancing and theater. The fine arts usually includes painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking and the performing arts encompass the area of the arts that has an audience and is performed on stage like the ballet, the symphony, broadway, and plays in theaters. Printmaking developed with the invention of the printing press and was first used to make several copies of one plate of words allowing printers to make publications like newspapers. The printing press was also used by artists to make pictures as well. The performing arts also developed later on the time line of humanity when playing or pretending as an acting troupe could be humorous and entertaining. This came into existence when going on hunts as a tribe was less important.
