Our Landscape:  Celebrating the Beauty of Maryland's Eastern Shore

Museums have traditionally collected works indigenous to their region.  The Academy Art Museum continues that tradition by developing a collection celebrating our cherished landscape.  In recent years the Museum has acquired several works from Easton’s annual Plein Air Festival.  These works provide visitors the opportunity appreciate the beauty of our native surroundings.  The Museum is pleased to highlight this year’s acquisition in the Calvert Gallery.  These works along with many more will be displayed in the Academy Art Museum’s Permanent Collection galleries as well as in traveling exhibitions to universities and art galleries around the country.

Treasures: Celebrating a Half Century of Gifts to the Collection

Museums have traditionally collected works indigenous to their region.  The Academy Art Museum continues that tradition by developing a collection celebrating our cherished landscape.  In recent years the Museum has acquired several works from Easton’s annual Plein Air Festival.  These works provide visitors the opportunity appreciate the beauty of our native surroundings.  The Museum is pleased to highlight this year’s acquisition in the Calvert Gallery.

In 1967 the Academy Art Museum began its permanent collection with the purchase of eleven works of art and the support of thirty individuals.  Today the collection exceeds 1,000 works on paper by American and European masters from the 15th Century to the present.  The collection also includes paintings, photography and sculpture and continues to grow.  A sampling of these works is featured in the Spitaleri Gallery.  Offering a resource for artistic scholarship, the collection is open for view by the public as well as to classes and special groups.
