Purpose –
ArtReach has the primary purpose of exposing children
to the arts in a fun, engaging manner that allows them to relate
the arts to their own world.
ArtReach Exhibition Tour
Explore the current exhibitions with a Museum
docent who will emphasize careful observation and introduce
discussion themes to help your students develop visual and
analytical skills. School tours typically last an hour, and
can be tailored (with advanced notice) to focus on a particular
theme or to incorporate a gallery game or writing exercise.
Depending on the exhibition and ability and age level of student,
we may include a hands-on art project related to the current
exhibition. Each registered teacher will receive a pre-lesson
packet including vocabulary words, reference material, discussion
questions, and in some cases homework activities that can be
completed before attending the museum in order to enrich their
experience. Post-lesson activities are included to reinforce
understanding of concepts introduced during the museum visit.
*We can tailor the exhibition tour to all ages and ability levels
including special-needs children. Contact the ArtReach coordinator
to make arrangements for your class needs.
Relating to School-Based Curriculum
ArtReach offers teachers a way to integrate classroom projects
with a featured artist or exhibition theme. Contact the ArtReach
coordinator to plan and develop individualized materials in advance
of your visit. We can do all sorts of blended curriculums with
art! We can relate to science, culture, history, whatever objectives
the teacher needs to accomplish.
